Short courses under UMB Global Pathways run in two seasons each year, Summer and Winter, following the international academic calendar. Both UMB students and faculty members are eligible to participate in short course programs organized by partner universities and institutions abroad. The minimum duration for any short course under this program is seven days, making it one of the more accessible entry points into international mobility for students who are not yet ready for a full semester exchange or a month-long internship. Despite the shorter timeframe, the academic content is structured and assessed, and participants leave with formal documentation of their achievement. For faculty, short courses abroad also serve as a channel for professional development and for deepening relationships with counterparts at partner institutions, which often leads to further collaboration down the line.
On the inbound side, UMB organizes its own short course program for students from partner universities abroad. The program runs annually and is delivered in a hybrid format, combining on-campus and online components to accommodate participants from different countries and time zones. Every international student who completes UMB's short course program receives both a certificate of completion and an official transcript, giving the program formal academic standing that participants can present to their home institutions for recognition. The hybrid delivery model also means that UMB's short course is accessible to a wider pool of international participants, not just those who can travel to Bengkulu in person.
For UMB students and faculty who complete a short course at a partner institution abroad, documentation is required upon return. Participants must submit their certificate and official transcript from the host institution to UGE as the basis for formal recognition and recording in their academic file. This requirement applies to all outbound short course participants regardless of destination or program provider. Students considering a short course abroad should check with UGE at the start of each semester for the current list of available programs at partner institutions, as offerings vary by season and by partner.
