INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM (IUP): BRINGING GLOBAL EDUCATION TO INDONESIAN STUDENTS

Established in August–September 2024, the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu (UMB) represents the university's commitment to nurturing globally competent graduates through an international learning experience in Indonesia.

Unlike conventional international programs that primarily enroll international students, UMB's IUP is exclusively designed for Indonesian students who aspire to study in an English-speaking academic environment while gaining international exposure without leaving the country.

The program currently offers two flagship pathways:

  • International Program of Communication Studies (IPCS) under the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP).
  • International Program of English Education (IPEE) under the Department of English Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP).

A distinctive hallmark of UMB's IUP is its General Education (GenEd) curriculum, inspired by the liberal education model widely implemented in universities across the United States. Beyond disciplinary knowledge, the curriculum develops essential global competencies through interdisciplinary courses such as Happiness, Eco-Lifestyle, Food, Body and Mind, Digital Literacy, Indonesian, and The World & Multi-Ethnicity. These courses foster critical thinking, intercultural awareness, sustainability, digital competence, and personal well-being—skills that are increasingly valued in today's global workforce.

Through English-medium instruction, student-centered learning, and internationally oriented academic experiences, the International Undergraduate Program equips students with the knowledge, mindset, and professional competencies needed to thrive in an interconnected world.

The International Undergraduate Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu is more than an academic pathway—it is a gateway for Indonesian students to become future global citizens, innovative professionals, and internationally competitive leaders.
