Nine international students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu (UMB) were honored as special guests at the International Batik Besurek Carnival 2026, held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the vibrant Belungguk Point area in Bengkulu City. Their presence brought a unique global touch to this iconic cultural celebration, highlighting the spirit of cross-cultural exchange and international friendship.
The carnival began at the historic Masjid Jamik Bengkulu, a landmark rich in heritage as it was designed by Indonesia's first president, Sukarno. From there, participants paraded along Jalan Suprapto, showcasing the beauty and elegance of Batik Besurek-Bengkulu's distinctive traditional textile— before concluding at the iconic Fatmawati Statue roundabout in the heart of the city. The approximately one-kilometer route was filled with thousands of enthusiastic participants and spectators who gathered to witness the colorful display of cultural pride.
The involvement of international students not only enriched the atmosphere of the event but also symbolized Bengkulu's openness to the world. Through this celebration, Batik Besurek was not only preserved as a cultural identity but also introduced to a wider global audience, fostering appreciation and understanding across borders.
