Every semester, students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu travel abroad for academic programs, and every year, international students and academics come to UMB's campus in Bengkulu. This two-way exchange is one of the more tangible signs of how seriously UMB takes its international commitments. It is not just about signing partnership agreements. It is about making sure those agreements actually move people.
UMB's mobility programs are coordinated by the UMB Global Engagement (UGE) team and are open to students who meet the applicable requirements. Programs run across two directions, outbound and inbound, and both have grown steadily as UMB's network of partner universities and organizations continues to expand.
Outbound Programs
Outbound mobility gives UMB students the opportunity to spend time at partner universities, organizations, and institutions abroad. Every semester, students can apply for one or more of the following programs.
Student Exchange Spend a semester or a defined study period at one of UMB's partner universities overseas. Exchange students take courses at the host institution, experience a different academic culture, and return to UMB with credits and perspectives that are difficult to get any other way.
Short Course For students who want an international academic experience without committing to a full semester abroad, short courses at partner institutions offer structured learning in a condensed format. These programs typically run for a few days to several weeks and cover specific topics or skill areas.
International Community Service (KKN Internasional) UMB's community service program, known locally as KKN, has an international track that places students in real community settings abroad. Students contribute to on-the-ground projects while developing a practical understanding of social and development issues in a different country.
International Internship Students with the right qualifications can complete their required internship at organizations or companies overseas through UMB's partner network. This is particularly valuable for students who want professional experience in an international setting before they graduate.
Conferences UMB students regularly participate in international academic conferences held at partner universities and organizations abroad. These events give students early exposure to academic publishing, research presentation, and professional networking at an international level.
All outbound programs are subject to eligibility requirements and available quotas. Students interested in applying should contact the UGE team early in the semester for information on upcoming opportunities.
Inbound Programs
UMB also opens its doors to international students and academics coming to Bengkulu. Inbound programs bring fresh perspectives into the classroom and onto campus, and they give UMB students the chance to engage with international peers and experts without leaving Indonesia.
Short Courses for International Participants UMB periodically hosts short course programs for students from partner universities abroad. These programs are designed around specific themes or academic topics and give international participants a structured experience on campus while creating cross-cultural interaction opportunities for UMB's own students.
International Conferences UMB hosts academic conferences that bring together researchers, lecturers, and students from multiple countries. These events are organized in collaboration with partner institutions and provide a forum for knowledge sharing across borders.
Visiting Professor Program Academics and practitioners from partner universities around the world come to UMB as visiting professors, delivering lectures, workshops, and academic sessions for students and faculty. These visits enrich the learning environment on campus and give students direct access to international expertise in their field.
